Local Nature Recovery Strategy
The LNRS, led by the West of England Mayor as the Responsible Authority, sets priorities for nature recovery and amps the areas where action will make the biggest difference. It guides investment, shapes Local Plans, and will help create a national Nature Recovery Network.
The West of England was the first region in the country to publish its LNRS and launch a dedicated Toolkit, making priorities and actions accessible to everyone, from farmers and landowners to communities and businesses.
WENP is the principal delivery partnership for the West of England LNRS. We are driving progress by embedding the LNRS in local policy and planning, developing a pipeline of investable projects, and championing nature recovery across the region.

LNRS Pipeline
Delivering the LNRS requires a strong pipeline of high-quality projects that can attract investment and deliver long-term change at scale. WENP is working with partners across the region to develop and coordinate this pipeline - connecting local priorities, evidence and delivery opportunities into strategic programmes that support nature recovery, climate resilience and sustainable growth.
This involves supporting the development of investable landscape-scale propositions, strengthening collaboration between partners, and helping align public, private and philanthropic funding with LNRS priorities.
By late 2026, we will publish a prospectus of strategic programmes that can be shared with partners, funders and investors to help accelerate delivery and unlock long-term investment in nature recovery across the West of England.

Joint Green Infrastructure Strategy
WENP aims to constructively influence spatial planning to ensure that a truly sustainable pattern of development becomes fully integrated into policy, decision making and delivery. WENP formed part of a working group to develop a Joint Green Infrastructure Strategy for the West of England, which aims to ensure a consistent approach to green infrastructure across the region and to secure investment in GI planning and provision, similar to that of other infrastructure. The JGIS Action Plan informs decisions related to GI and drives forward delivery of the Strategy.
